About Us

How we got started

A road trip! In March of 2011, five Indy folks who barely knew each other hopped in a car together and headed to the national Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) conference in Grand Rapids. On the 4.5 hour ride there, we introduced ourselves and chatted about our careers.

In Michigan, we participated fully in the YNPN experience – we shared our joys, concerns, energy, and inspiration for working in the nonprofit sector. On the way back to Indy we chatted about the day’s events and thought, “This has been great! Let’s keep in touch.”

We started meeting for coffee once every month. Over time we invited friends, acquaintances, and even strangers to join our conversation; YNPNindy grew from there. To this day YNPNindy still meets for morning coffee.

You have questions, we have answers

Who is young?

YNPNindy defines “young” as anyone under age 40 or anyone young (new) to the nonprofit sector.

What counts as a nonprofit professional?

There are many different groups of people who serve as nonprofit professionals in our community, including individuals who work in, volunteer with, or serve on the board of nonprofit organizations.

What does YNPNindy do?

The Indianapolis chapter of YNPN seeks to provide every young nonprofit professional with a safe place to share the struggles and joys of a mission-driven work in Central Indiana.

Professional Development: Once every quarter, members have the opportunity to attend a free or low-cost professional development event that has a specific learning objective and allows time for guided networking with their peers.

Happy Hours: One night every other month, we host a happy hour to provide members a time to relax, network and learn about upcoming events.

Huddles: Every other third Thursday of the month, a small group of members get together over morning coffee, or lunch, to discuss either a specific topic or whatever career issues are on their minds.

Volunteer events: Twice annually, our members give back to the community by partnering with a local organization to complete a service project.
